24 Apr Points Africa GHOne Interview
Interviewer: Hello and welcome to Points Africa. This is the reward network that allows you to earn and redeem reward points across many of your favorite everyday brands. Points Africa brings together trusted brands in Ghana, including Star Oil, Melcom, Momo, and Glyco, all connected through one simple reward platform.
Every time you shop, pay for fuel, make an online purchase or renew an insurance policy, you earn Points Africa reward points, and those reward points have real value. You can redeem them for fuel, groceries, online shopping, airtime, data, and more.
Interviewer: Here is how it works:
- Step One: Shop or make a payment at any partner location.
- Step Two: Provide your registered phone number at checkout.
- Step Three: Your reward points are instantly added to your Points Africa wallet in the app.
When you’re ready, simply open the app, choose a partner, and use your points to pay for goods or services. It is quick, it is simple, and it fits seamlessly into your everyday life. For customers, Points Africa means more rewards from the purchases you are already making. For partners, it means better customer loyalty and stronger engagement.
Interviewer: I have two great people in the studio. I have the CEO of Points Africa, Andrew McBurnett. Andrew, good morning.
Andrew: Good morning, Joshua. How are you?
Interviewer: I’m doing well. And he’s here with Patrice Amagashi. Patrice, good to see you. And he is running PR for Points Africa. Let’s talk about Points Africa. Andrew, what’s it all about?
Andrew: Yeah. Well, like you just saw, Points Africa is a new loyalty program here in Ghana. It increases the spending power of everyday Ghanaians. You go out, shop like you regularly do at brands you know and love, and you get points. You can shop at places like Melcom for your groceries, Star Oil to fill up your fuel, go to Jumia online, get your car insurance from Glyco, or go to lifestyle brands like Starbites or the mall to get Levi’s jeans. Gather those points and use them for free stuff.
Interviewer: Every time I make a purchase, I get a point?
Andrew: Every time you make a purchase at all participating partners. And you can redeem those points. They have real value because they extend and increase the spending power of everyday Ghanaians.
Interviewer: But Patrice, it sounds too good to be true. Who can use this?
Patrice: Everybody and anybody who uses a smartphone. You can go on your phone right now and download the Points Africa app from either the App Store or the Google Play Store. The logo looks like the map of Africa. Points Africa is saying this is the time to reward you for your sweat and toil. Accumulate points and use them to acquire anything you want: data, airtime, groceries, even fuel.
Patrice: We have a lot of partners joined on this. Everybody watching now should download the app because we’re giving 5,000 points to those who download now.
Andrew: We’re picking three winners today. You could get 5,000 free points to use for airtime, data, groceries, fuel, or online shopping.
Interviewer: Is this just like any other app? I’m looking it up now.
Andrew: And just in case, if you’ve got the Momo app as well, go right into your Momo app, log in, go under the “buy” section, and you have Points Africa right within your Momo app.
Interviewer: So Momo is a partner? I’m downloading it now. At what point do you start accumulating points?
Andrew: Instantly. Once you do transactions using Points Africa within the Momo app or the Points Africa app, you start accumulating. You start building those points within your wallet and then you can use them anywhere across the network—Melcom, Star Oil, Jumia, Glyco, Starbites, or even the Honeysuckle.
Patrice: And we’re trying to get on all the pizza outlets. We want to reward people for the energy they put into purchasing. Points are real-time redeemable to purchase anything instantly or in the future.
Interviewer: Why did partners like Glyco and Star Oil jump onto this so quickly?
Andrew: It makes sense to them. For consumers, it’s about being rewarded. For partners, it’s about being part of a network where they are getting customers coming in. It creates loyalty and “stickability” for their brand.
Interviewer: Is it limited to those using smartphones?
Andrew: Mainly smartphones, but you can also register using USSD as well. You can dial *703*2899# and you’re registered. Once you start making purchases, you start accumulating points.
Interviewer: Where do you see this in the next five years?
Andrew: We are called Points Africa. We started in Ghana, which is a great place to start, and we’re launching next in Nigeria. Within five years, you should be able to earn points not only in Ghana but everywhere across the continent. Points you earn in Ghana, you could use in Nigeria, Kenya, or Côte d’Ivoire.
Interviewer: Why Ghana first?
Andrew: It’s a great environment. The mobile money network is very strong here and it’s a perfect community to grow Points Africa from.
Patrice: Exactly. Just like how mobile money took over, Points Africa is going to take over as your means of transaction. Banks will start having it. When you sit in your Uber or Yango, you can use points to pay instead of cash. Points Africa is synonymous with cash.
Interviewer: I’m on the app now. My wife has already downloaded it too.
Patrice: We’re going to give her 5,000 points!
Interviewer: Andrew, final words. Why should those not yet on the app get it ASAP?
Andrew: Get it ASAP so you can be rewarded for the things you do every single day. Shop at Melcom, Star Oil, Jumia, Glyco, and our lifestyle partners. Download the app right now and be rewarded for your everyday shopping.
Patrice: Quickly, if you send a screenshot to the WhatsApp line that you’ve downloaded the app, we’ll give 5,000 points to the first five people. The interface is beautiful and simple. Spend and earn. It doesn’t get any better than that.
