25 Apr Points Africa Hitz FM Interview
Interviewer: And uh if you’re listening, please pay attention because this morning is all for you. What is Points Africa all about?
Andrew: Yeah, good morning. Thanks for having me again. So Points Africa is a new loyalty program that increases the spending power of everyday Ghanaians by rewarding them for shopping at brands they know and love. So you can shop at favorite brands like Melcom, Star Oil, Glyco, Jumia, Starbucks, Jamestown Coffee. You can get your Levis at Acacia Mall, get some points. Pay with your Momo. Get those points and then use those points for free things like airtime, data from MTN, free gas, free groceries. And uh, yeah, you can register really quickly, easily by calling *713*7915# and then you register for free. Shop.
Interviewer: Yeah, I think you need to go over that again. Yes, we will come back to that. But you mentioned loyalty program. What is that?
Patrice: This is very simple. Break it up. It is Points Africa. P-O-I-N-T-S Africa. Not point. Points. Plenty points. A lot of points. So, it’s an app that everybody can download on their phone. Regardless of the phone that you’re using, whether it’s Android or you’re using iPhone, you can download it. So, people should go on right now and download. Now, I think I have something special for the first five people who are going to download and prove to us that they’ve been able to download the Points Africa app. So, go on your phone right now, go to the App Store, Play Store, and download Points Africa.
Now, the good thing about it is that anytime you shop anywhere that is any of the partners, you get the opportunity of getting a lot more points. So, don’t just go shop and then go home and sleep as it is always business as usual. No. Anytime you go shopping at any of our partner places, all you need to do is that just shop—and it shouldn’t be one-time shopping. No, no.
Interviewer: That’s why it is loyalty. Absolutely.
Patrice: So if you go there multiple times, the more you shop, the more you accumulate the points. And then you use those points at those same partners for free. Amazing.
Interviewer: So whatever you like… is it shoes, shirts, is it food? Anything.
Patrice: Anything. The more you buy those things, the more we accumulate the points and we give you free points to redeem anytime. So, when you go in the next time, if the shirt maybe you bought it at 500 cedis, the next time you go in there, you’ll be surprised you can get it for free. Ours is: don’t just go shop and go home. Get the Points Africa app on your phone, and shop and then accumulate the points. It’s as simple as that. The sweat that you go through day in, day out, buying waakye, buying pizza, buying groceries—anytime you buy such things, just use the Points Africa app. We’re giving you the opportunity to get it free at your next purchase.
Interviewer: Great. So, if I have the app now on my phone, where do I go? What do I do?
Patrice: Just go on your phone. Like I said, pick your phone right now. You’re allowed to use your phone in the studio. There we go. That’s mine. That’s my Points Africa app. That is what you see over there. Personal information—you would just have everything. That’s it.
Andrew: Yeah. And the other good thing is that you can also go into your Momo app today. You can get Points Africa within the Momo app. So, if you’ve got your Momo app, just log in, go under the “buy” section, click Points Africa. That’s it. You’re in and you can see all the various offers you have like Melcom, Jumia, Star Oil, etc. Purchase, get your points across all of our partners, and get something for free.
Interviewer: So, what does it mean when you have the Points Africa app on your phone? Does it mean you pay through the app?
Andrew: Yeah, that’s what you do. You can pay through your app, specifically using Momo right now. Then you accumulate your points and then you keep on shopping, basically.
Interviewer: Okay. But you have some partners you’re working with. These are the companies where you can have your points redeemed when you use Points Africa. Which companies are these?
Andrew: Basically, it’s Melcom, Star Oil for gas, Glyco for insurance, Jumia online. You can then go to a bunch of what we call lifestyle partners like Starbucks, Jamestown Coffee, Levis, Aldo, etc. Go right into the app, or as I mentioned, if you’ve got your Momo app as well, go right into Momo, go on the “buy” section and you would see Points Africa. You’ll see a whole load of partners in there you can shop at—restaurants, grocery, etc.
Interviewer: Okay, so if I shop in a number of these companies you’ve mentioned and I get the points, do these points together go into one account for me?
Andrew: That’s right. You have almost like a points wallet. And then you can use those points anywhere across the network that we have available.
Interviewer: So I shop at Star Oil, Melcom, Momo, Jumia, Glyco. And then the points I get go into one account? Straight up. Oh, that is beautiful. It’s very simple.
Patrice: Very simple. It doesn’t matter the branch that you shop from. You can do Airport, you can do Cantonments, you can do Tema—so long as the company is a partner company, you’re in.
Interviewer: And will I know which company is giving me the points? Will that be indicated?
Andrew: Yes. Right in the app you can see all of the different offers, and then when you shop you see the transactions as well so you can look at your full transaction history.
Interviewer: What challenges is one likely to face using this app? For example, if I want to get more points, what will happen to me to the extent that I will not get more points?
Patrice: There’s only one big challenge: when you decide not to shop. The mere fact that you have signed up onto the app does not mean that you will get points automatically. You have to use it because day in, day out you are buying, you are transacting business. If you shop at our partners, don’t just shop for free. Don’t shop and go home. All your sweat needs to get paid.
Interviewer: Are you looking forward to expanding the number of companies you have on this?
Patrice: Absolutely. So many people are coming on. We are widening the spectrum to accept a lot of people in there. If there are partners out there that are interested, just contact us.
Interviewer: So, guys, this is Points Africa. The app you can just get it on the App Store, Play Store, or the Momo app.
Andrew: And then again, you can just register really quickly on USSD: *713*7915#. Slowly again: *713*7915#.
Patrice: I mentioned the first five people, I’m going to give them a special gift. 5,000 points.
Interviewer: 5,000 points? For the first five? Can we convert that to money?
Andrew: You use it for free at any of our partners.
Interviewer: Break the points down. What does 5,000 mean to the ordinary consumer?
Andrew: You can get a free coffee at Jamestown Coffee. You can get some free gas. You can even get some free data and airtime. You can also get some free groceries. Amazing. And all you need when you’re registering is your phone number.
Interviewer: Okay. So if you’re listening, 0548841039 is our WhatsApp number. Send in your name, your location, and a screenshot if you have downloaded the app already. You stand a chance of winning 5,000 points right now. If you have Momo, you can just open it up—mine is here. I just got it through the Momo app.
Interviewer: I have in the studio Andrew McBurnett, CEO of Points Africa, and Patrice Amagashi, PR for Points Africa. This is a loyalty program that assists you to get points when you buy from Star Oil, Melcom, Momo, Jumia, Glyco and others. Join this ecosystem. Download the Points Africa app and send us a screenshot to 0548841039 to win 5,000 points. How do they redeem their prize?
Andrew: Once you have downloaded and logged into the account, we’ll select the winner and we’ll give you the points right into your points wallet.
Interviewer: Oh, so it will be automatic. Straight up. Solomon—I see one now. Solomon has won 5,000.
Patrice: We’re giving 5,000 to all of them. Five people. Solomon is going to get it. We have Vincent, we have Lizzy, Eric Yaba, Nathaniel Owusu. So, we already have the five.
Andrew: Nice. But keep downloading the app and calling that USSD number. If you’ve got the Momo app, just go right in.
Interviewer: Final words to our listeners?
Andrew: Points Africa is a new loyalty program that rewards you for your everyday spend. Typically, you go buy groceries with cash and you don’t really get anything. With Points Africa, you get those points across the network of merchants and then use those points back across the network. It’s going to extend your spending power.
Patrice: It’s very simple. If you don’t have the Points Africa app on your phone, then you’re shopping into an open basket. You’re losing. We shop together; you don’t have the app, I do—I would have made more money than you. I can load my basket far more than you because I have the app. I don’t need to walk in every day with money. The moment I start shopping with the Points Africa app, I’m racking up my finances. There are times I can just walk in there with only points and it can buy me anything. If you have one minute remaining on your phone, just go onto the Points Africa app, redeem the points, and bingo—it works. You can get data or airtime anytime.
Interviewer: We love this. Patrice and Andrew, thanks so much for coming. We are signing up right now because we want to score points.
Andrew: Thank you.
